Email Clients

A recent study (Silverpop 2005) found that approximately 40 percent of email marketing messages delivered to inboxes appear "broken." This means that email clients and spam filters prevent images within the emails from rendering correctly within email clients such as AOL, Earthlink, Gmail, Hotmail, Outlook, Outlook Express, Yahoo! Mail and others.

The reason? Newer email clients including Outlook 2003+, Thunderbird, Entourage and Eudora 6+ have implemented various levels of anti-spam features which, by default, will often prevent some or all HTML and/or embedded or linked graphic images and Flash from being displayed within the email.

And since HTML, images and Flash are not always rendered properly by these email clients, the actual contents of the email may have missing graphics or indecipherable messages.

In addition, the newest email clients also attempt to determine what may be spam or junk mail, based on the textual contents of the email.

Although these measures help reduce the amount of spam that makes it into our inboxes, they can also make it difficult to get your email marketing campaigns through to your customers.

One of the best solutions we've found is to ensure that your email lists are truly opt-in, as described on our Anti-Spam and Opt-In Lists pages. At ThinkSend, we also use a variety of techniques to help get your email messages to your subscribers-without getting stuck in a spam filter or junk mail folder.
